Today, Senate Bill 555 passed in the House with a resulting vote of 62 to 36; the next step is for Governor Northam to sign it into law. There were still a few members of the House who expressed deep concerns about the perceived dangers of removing a barrier crime from the employment process, despite the benefits of allowing a person with lived experience in recovery to help others with the same experiences. This means that even though this legislation has passed both the House and Senate, it is still incredibly important to continue to let our legislators and fellow Virginians know about the value of recovery and peer services. We would like to send a huge thank you to all of our members who got involved and contacted their legislators to educate them about peer services! #BeVOCAL
